How do I share our story?

Sharing your story is a powerful way to deepen your impact and inspire others—and there are so many creative ways to do it! You might write about your journey in a blog post, newsletter, or even a book; speak at gatherings or conferences; or host an event filled with music, poetry, or visual art that brings your community’s story to life. Consider joining podcasts, writing guest articles, or pitching your story to local or national media—people are hungry for hopeful narratives about belonging and transformation.

Kodo Nishimura, a Buddhist monk, artist, and makeup influencer, has had tremendous success sharing his story as a queer Buddhist and challenging assumptions about religious leadership and gender expression; both in his own social media and traditional news outlets. Whatever format you choose, remember that your story isn’t just about what you’ve built; it’s about why it matters, and the lives it has touched. When you share that, you invite others into something bigger than themselves—and maybe even spark the next wave of spiritual imagination.

What tools can I use to help me share my story?

  • Public Narrative is a powerful way of using your story to advocate for wider change.
  • The Moth offers training, inspiration, and events for telling true stories live, with an emphasis on vulnerability and resonance.
  • StoryCorps is a platform and toolkit for recording and preserving personal stories in ways that highlight authenticity and connection.
  • Or reach out to story coaches like La Ventana Storytelling to help you hone your message.
