This article is critical as it presents the debate in the 1970s on black theology in the diaspora, rooted in the civil rights movement and social justice of African Americans vis-à-vis black theology in the continent invested in decolonization and indigenization – showing that spiritual innovations are an ongoing practice in communities.

This report is chock-full of stories (case studies, audio and video) about faith communities innovating to bring generations together as a source of societal healing and renewal. The task requires leaders to reckon honestly with power dynamics, embrace constructive conflict, and cultivate relationships that can weather difficulty and grow stronger through it. Also includes a conversation guide. “The question isn’t whether faith communities should do cogenerational work,” said study co-author Eddie Gonzalez, “but whether they can remain relevant and life-giving without it.”
