fromtheroots

creating spaces for the initiations that a colonised world disrupted

fromtheroots is an Indigenous Afrikan ecology of spiritual, embodied and land-based practice exploring what it takes for human beings and communities to become capable of regeneration. We understand spirituality not as separate from ordinary life, but as the cultivation of relationship with body, ancestry, community, purpose, land and the more-than-human world. Our work supports people to human well: to become rooted and relationally responsible beings able to participate in the regeneration of life.

We understand regeneration as four movements: preventing death, healing dis-ease, adding life and embodying sovereignty. Embodied sovereignty is foundational. It is the capacity to act with agency and responsibility while recognising and respecting the sovereignty of other beings.

We weave ancestral and Indigenous Afrikan knowledge, embodied and nervous-system practice, inner work, ritual, movement, song, art, and land-based practice. Through courses, communities of practice, engaging elders, cultural recovery work, movement weaving and our land-based sanctuary, Serian, we create spaces for healing, creation and spiritual maturation while exploring what it means to repair and rebuild the conditions for life.

We are particularly interested in connecting with others exploring regenerative justice, alternative education, ancestral and Indigenous knowledges, embodied transformation, collective liberation, land-based learning and new forms of community and economy.
